someone was asking the other day about how to go about boycotting Monsanto so here’s a good place to start

Girl, bye

I think I would literally be throwing out most of the shit in my kitchen

Congra is a fucking food conglomerate
I guess I just won’t eat now

how come we never get a list of companies/local co-ops by major cities that we CAN buy from? that take food stamps and forms of government assistance?
telling people to boycott the most accessible food does nothing if you don’t provide truly accessible alternatives and other options

Seriously though, this is an incredibly important message.

bolded for emphasis

i know that the two food co-ops (The Merc and Natural Grocers), the locally owned grocery store (Checkers), and the farmer’s markets in Lawrence, KS take food stamps/cash assistance.

Mondragon is a great alternative food source in Winnipeg. It’s not super cheap but it’s totally vegan and nearly all organic and fair trade.

Sign this petition! In June, the play “Kunst” by Hermann Nitsch will be performed on six days. One cow and three pigs will be slaughtered for the sake of “art”! Please refuse to accept this! Animals are conscious beings and are not on this planet to entertain us. By signing this petition, you can help saving these animals lives and make clear, that this absurd act of cruelty should not be considered as art! That’s why I started this petition!

Nitsch’s work, which can be considered both ritualistic and existential, first drew attention in the early 1960s when he exhibited a skinned and mutilated lamb. The lamb was crucified against a white fabric-covered wall, with the entrails removed and displayed below a white table, splashed with blood and hot water. This was accompanied by Nitsch’s “Geräuschmusik”. Nitsch’s subsequent work has incorporated many similar elements, often combining slaughtered animals, red fruits, music, dancing, and active participants. Nitsch juxtaposed slaughtered animal intestines with quasi-religious icons such as staged crucifixions, satirizing and questioning the moral ethics of atavistic religion and sacrifice. Currently his work is often discussed in the context of our culture’s fixation with violence seen on the news, movie screens, and in popular video games. Correlations have also been drawn to many instances of the intersection of violence and culture. These performance works, which have become known as “actions” have become more and more elaborate over the years. This highly elaborate work is exemplified by the 6-Day Play, which Nitsch considered to be his pinnacle piece. Please, sign this petition and move it around!

Please tell every dog or cat owner you know. Even if you don’t have a pet, please pass this to those who do.Over the weekend, the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. The dogs loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog (Calypso) decided the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn’t acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk. Halfway through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly.Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company’s web site,This product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats.Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey’s, and they claim that “It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won’t eat it.”*Snopes site gives the following information:http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cocoamulch.asp
.asp>Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman’s Garden Supply and other garden supply stores contains a lethal ingredient called ‘Theobromine’. It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die. Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks.Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker’s chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.**PLEASE PASS THIS ON**

Putting them in the sink or a bowl of water with some vinegar really helps to remove a lot of that wax and other ick on them. I can’t handle the idea of eating apples without doing that now, knowing how much you can scrape off just with a finger-nail.

THIS EXPLAINS SO. MUCH.

And sometimes the wax is made from animal products, thus making an apple not vegan.
